My research interests center on the development of climate records through the recovery and analysis of ice cores. Over the past 20 years I have been involved in research expeditions to Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, China, Pakistan, the Canadian Arctic, Greenland, and Antarctica. I am currently leading research programs, funded primarily by the National Science Foundation, to develop high resolution, multi-parameter ice core paleoclimate records from glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau and in the Canadian Arctic.

I am also investigating changes in New England's Climate and Air Quality as part of the NOAA funded AIRMAP program. The primary mission of AIRMAP is to develop a detailed understanding of climate variability and the source of persistent air pollutants in New England. Our goal is to identify the causes of climate variability, predict air quality changes as an addition to daily weather forecasts, and to demonstrate new forecasting technologies.
One of the ultimate goals of AIRMAP is to develop decision relevant information concerning climate and air quality for the citizens of New England.
